How did Roger Montgomery’s A1 Switzer portfolio perform?

In late 2010 Peter Switzer set Roger Montgomery a challenge — create a portfolio of A1 businesses that will outperform the market. Whilst Roger does not trade short-term, on Thursday 10 February 2011 he revealed the results of his A1 portfolio. Of the 10 A1 businesses Roger named, the share prices of two rose 25 per cent, another two rose 12 per cent and the remainder returned an average of seven per cent. That’s an average share price appreciation of around 10 per cent in just six weeks! The All Ords returned 5.7 per cent over the same period. Even Roger’s A1 businesses that were trading at prices higher than his Value.able intrinsic value returned an average of 10.5 per cent. It just goes to show that Roger’s Value.able method of valuing only the best stocks, his A1s, and buying them for less than they’re worth, can beat the market. In this interview Roger also shared his thoughts on Telstra following the company’s recent results announcement. Switzer TV with Peter Switzer was broadcast on the Sky Business Channel on 10 February 2011. ASIA, GPOR, OAS, SODA — Stock Charts — Harry Boxer, TheTechTrader.com

01/31/11 – Tonight I’m going to talk about some longs, and tomorrow night I’ll cover the shorts. Right now it’s a very tentative market, but there’s certainly a lot of stocks that moved up today. Among the majority of the stocks that we follow that had a really good day today, junior oils, with the price of oil at two and a half year highs today, reaching over $92 a barrel. www.thetechtrader.com AsiaInfo-Linkage,Inc. (ASIA) had a big day today, up 3.05, or 16.57%, 3.3 million shares, the biggest volume in three months. Coming through the declining topsline, or the top of the declining channel. Right now it appears that the stock could be headed up towards a test of this level up here in the next few days, around 24 — 25 zone. Beyond that, secondary target up around 28 — 30. http Gulfport Energy Corp. (GPOR), another independent oil and gas company, after a nice run from the August lows around the 10 1/2 range, it ran up to 23, backed off, coiled, and today popped 2.63, or 12.3%, on 900000 shares. That’s the biggest volume in more than a month, about five weeks. More importantly, it broke out of this consolidation range and may be headed for higher levels. I have a trading target up here now around 27. www.thetechtrader.com Oasis Petroleum Inc. (OAS), another junior oil, up another 1.77, or 5.8%, on 1.5 million shares, the heaviest volume in two months. The top of the channel is beckoning it appears, up around 35, short-term trading target. http SodaStream International
